QUOTATIONS TO HEAL BY: FAITH AND HEALING "If you think you have an incurable disease, you're right. If you think your problem is curable, then you are also right." -- Dr. H. Koning, MD "The placebo effect should be called the faith effect. As Jesus said, with faith, you can move mountains. "To say that in a scientific way: Whatever you do to get well, it has to fit into the story you have about how people get sick and get well." -- Dr. Lewis Mehl-Madrona, MD, PhD "The human being lives, moves, and has his being in a limitless ocean of health-power, and he uses this power according to his faith." -- Wallace D. Wattles ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3. FEATURE ARTICLE: WHAT SHOULD YOU DO ABOUT THE FLU? Last week, President Obama declared it a national emergency in the US, enacting the same sorts of rules effective for disaster response. It's been dubbed a pandemic by the World Health Organization. The vaccine is in limited supply. Fortunately, you already have access to protection that is exponentially more powerful than any vaccine. And besides that... It doesn't cost anything. You don't have to go anywhere to get it. It doesn't hurt. Consider this: The perspective that the source of infectious disease, and therefore its cure, is outside of you, is the medical philosophy of "allopathic" (mainstream) medicine. According to this philosophy, you are always at risk of getting sick from any number of "germs" you often can't see, smell, feel, or taste. It's pretty scary if you let your attention and imagination wander down this path. That's exactly the irresistable path conjured by most media. Even "alternative medicine" publications will tell you what herbs and vitamins to take to ward off the "danger." After all, fear sells. Humans are programmed for survival, which means we react strongly to perceived threats. If someone wants you to take a certain action, the best way to get you to do it is scare you into it. It's what doctors are trained to do: scare you into doing what's "best" for you. But there's another explanation for disease. It's that you get sick because you have created a sizeable disturbance in your energetic field by paying too much attention to limiting, counterproductive thoughts. Those limiting, counterproductive thoughts include things like: "I'm powerless against the flu." "The world is a dangerous place." "That person is to blame for making me sick." "I'm weak and sickly." Sometimes you may not be aware of what thoughts you've been paying attention to. You just experience "stress." Unfortunately, the very efforts of well-meaning people to help you by warning you of danger may result in you focusing your attention on thoughts that are actually hazardous to your health! Should you ignore the warnings? Here's my advice. 1. CHECK YOUR BELIEFS ABOUT STAYING HEALTHY Once you are aware that something like the flu is around, check in with your beliefs about it. What do you believe will keep you from getting sick? You might not *want* to believe that a flu shot will be good for you because you don't like shots. But ask yourself what you expect would be the result if you got one, versus if you didn't. If the idea of getting a vaccination makes you feel more secure, get one. If the idea scares you more than comforts you, don't. If you have homeopathic remedies, herbs, an accupuncturist or other healing practitioner you trust, a favorite home remedy--and some combination of this gives you confidence that if you get sick you'll be fine, or that you can prevent illness with tried and true methods, go with it. Go with what you truly believe. As Mr. Wattles reminds us, the cure is what you have faith in. Personally, I believe in the energetic field disturbance explanation of illness. My job is to keep my attention on being present and fully alive, on thoughts of what I want to create, not what I want to avoid. To minimize the power of suggestion, I don't watch TV or read the daily news. Because I'm a doctor, I inevitably encounter thoughts of disease. I do my best to keep my focus on the limitless ocean of health power, on encouraging others, and on keeping my sense of humor and delight. When I'm feeling stressed, and know my field is disturbed, it's like fertile soil for unfriendly micro-organisms to thrive in. So, if I can avoid exposure to throngs of those micro-organisms by avoiding contact with infectious people, I will. I also eat well, wash my hands frequently, get lots of sleep, get daily doses of sunlight, go for walks or work outdoors, stretch and exercise, and spend a little time each day meditating. Most of all, I chip away at my attention that's stuck on whatever is causing me to feel stressed so it's free to put back where it belongs! 2. CHECK YOUR BELIEFS ABOUT GETTING WELL Next, check what you really believe about healing. If you get the flu, what will it take for you to get well? If I feel the first signs of a cold or flu coming on, I usually take a homeopathic remedy. I use a classic naturopathic "nasal lavage" which involves rinsing the nasal passages, throat, and a little of the sinuses, with warm salt water. This almost always nips the problem in the bud. When it doesn't, I continue with the nasal lavage at least twice a day, take my favorite herbs, drink lots of tea, and redouble my efforts to find excuses to laugh. Mostly, instead of complaining about feeling awful, I focus on the thought that it's just temporary, that I'll feel better in a day or two. I find things to appreciate, keep thinking about the better feeling and other things I'm looking forward to. What works for you? 3. KEEP YOUR FOCUS ON WHAT YOU LOVE AND WANT You don't love being sick or want to be sick, right? Why not use that exponentially more-powerful-than-a-vaccine protection that you have? Use your freedom to place your attention on the power that heals, and to see yourself and the world through that lens. Whatever dietary, medical, herbal, homeopathic, or other therapy you believe in, you're always better off to enhance it with the two best medicines of all: 1. Do whatever causes you to feel unified with the healing power of the universe. 2. Laugh as much and as often as possible. ;-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. SOMETHING FREE AND VERY INSPIRING! "If you think you have an incurable disease, you're right. If you think your problem is curable, then you are also right." This is the intro to the trailer for a new movie, "The Living Matrix." I can hardly wait to see the whole thing! If you haven't already watched this, it's well worth the three minutes. Check it out here: -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ne-I7JTXCbo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5. DO YOU WISH TO SHRINK? Just in case you're heading into November feeling like it's the dreaded slippery holiday slope to a plumper body, you might want to know about this. You're just in time to join the "Lose Three Pounds This Week Transformation Program," to be in on the members-only teleclass I'm giving this coming Tuesday, November 3. The first week, including the teleclass, is FREE! "Hi Alexandra, "Just wanted to give you a heads up on my weight loss progress. "As I've learned with the SOBW program, I have this incredible power over my mind and body. "When I stopped obsessing about my size and started to see and speak kindly of my body, I actually started easily losing weight. My positive self talk makes me feel lighter, like a weight has been lifted (no pun intended) and so far I've lost 7 pounds. "I found I was taunting myself like a school yard bully. When I stopped the abusive self talk and changed my attitude, positive results showed up. "Life, in general, is just easier now. My body is not my dreaded foe but now my good and precious friend. "Thanks for leading me to the high road." -- Wendy Porter, Everett, Washington, USA Wendy, it's amazing, isn't it, how easily the results come when you deal with the underlying problem? And you're doing it! Congratulations! ***** My friend, if you'd like to slim down, please give yourself this gift. Here's where you can see the all details and sign up for your free trial: -> http://www.scienceofbeingwell.net/losethreepoundsthisweek Details on the November 3 class will be sent to members of this program. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 6. THIS EDITION'S SWIFT ACTION PRIZE In each edition, there's a valuable prize available to those who follow Mr. Wattles' advice to do what you can now, where you are now, in the most perfect way possible. Those little actions add up! All you have to do to enter the drawing to receive the prize is send in the answer to a simple question. In this edition, you'll put together info from two places to create the answer. THE WINNER OF THE LAST DRAWING IS ... Caroline Leccesse in Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania, USA Caroline wins a "The Science of Getting Rich" audiobook, read by my dear friend Rebecca Fine. Congratulations, Caroline! You have until November 30 to claim your prize at: --> http://www.scienceofbeingwell.net/contact.html If you're not Caroline, get your own copy of "The Science of Getting Rich" audiobook here: --> http://www.scienceofbeingwell.net/sograudio The answer to last month's question, "What happened to the people who thought their work was good exercise?" is this: Compared with the control group, they showed a decrease in weight, blood pressure, body fat, waist-to-hip ratio, and body mass index. * * * * * * * * * * * THIS MONTH'S PRIZE ... One of my favorite teachers, Edwene Gaines, created a profoundly effective meditation called "Deep Profound Forgiveness." I must have listened to it a hundred times when my father died and my husband and I separated. At the time, I bought a case of the cassettes so I could share them with patients and friends. This month, you could win one! To enter the drawing, you must be a subscriber of BE WELL! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7. THE LAST WORD: STARRY, STARRY NIGHT You are one of some 45,000 subscribers all over the planet. I don't know about Antarctica, but we're on every other continent, in almost all the countries that permit internet access. Trying to picture all of us is mind-bending already! Our planet is in a galaxy with some 300 billion stars, plus or minus a hundred billion or so*. That's not counting planets and moons. Can you even begin to wrap your brain around that many stars? To get an idea, picture this. You know those cylindrical salt boxes that have been around since "The Science of Being Well" was first published? (Really! Morton Salt incorporated in 1910, producing its famous round box with the patented spout.) Each box has something like 15 million grains of salt. To create a scale model of the galaxy, you'd buy something like 25,000 of those boxes. (How's my math?) Spread out the grains on a giant piece of velvet cloth, so that each grain is about seven miles from its nearest neighbor. Okay, so it's impossible to do, since the cloth would have to be many times larger than the Earth. But is the image enough to wow you? How's that for a bit of perspective? *Thanks to Doug Reilly of www.punkastronomy.com for the galactic info. ***** I'll be back soon with more news and goodies. Until then, "Trusting that you will go on until the priceless blessing of perfect health is yours," I wish you infinite blessings along the way. EXPECT GOOD THINGS! Starstruck, Dr. Alexandra P.S.
